2008 AT&T Classic Preview
The 2008 AT&T Classic tees off later this week at the TPC Sugarloaf golf course in Florida. Although the course is located in close proximity to the TPC Sawgrass course that hosted the Players Championship last week, few of the world’s top ranked players will be competing in the AT&T Classic tournament.
While only 19 of the top 100 ranked PGA golfers will be participating in the 2008 AT&T Classic, the field does boast some top talent. Last week’s Players Championship runner-up Paul Goydos will be competing in the 20o8 AT&T Classic, alongside two times US Open winner Retief Goosen.
AT&T Classic defending champion Zach Johnson will also be returning to TPC Sugarloaf this week as he attempts to notch up his third victory in the AT&T Classic. All three of Johnson’s PGA Tour titles have come in the state of Georgia, and the reigning US Open champion has shot 17 of his 19 rounds at the AT&T Classic at par or better.
Drought conditions in Georgia mean players are likely to face unfamiliar conditions at the TPC Sugarloaf course this year. The rye grass traditionally used in the rough has been replaced by Bermuda grass, which may provide 2008 AT&T Classic players with better lies when their shots stray into the rough.
