Howell takes the lead at the 2008 AT&T Classic
Kenny Perry held onto second place on the second day of the 2008 AT&T Classic as Charles Howell III took a one shot lead by firing a bogey-free round of 67. Howell’s performance saw him take the lead going into the final round of the AT&T Classic for the 4th time in his career.
“I gave myself a lot of opportunities,” Howell told the Associated Press at the end of the day’s play. “I played fairly conservative into the greens. I drove the ball well and got in places where I could play from. Not losing any shots off the tee is big, especially around this course. There is some strategy and thought off the tees as well as into the greens. That’s why I think it’s so important to get the ball in play off the tee.”
Kenny Perry stayed in touch with the tournament leader going into the final round by carding a round of 69, including a birdie on the final hole. Overnight leader Jonathan Byrd conceded his lead, enduring a troubled round of 73 to join Ryan Palmer, David Toms and Kenny Perry in a four way tie for second place at the 2008 AT&T Classic.
