Imada wins 2008 AT&T Classic

Last year’s AT&T Classic runner-up Ryuji Imada engineered a remarkable victory at the 2008 AT&T Classic at the TPC Sugarloaf yesterday, coming from behind to snatch victory from Kenny Perry.

Imada carded a round of 67 on the final day of the 2008 AT&T Classic to finish level with Kenny Perry at 15 under par. The tie forced the tournament into a playoff, where Imada required only one hole to edge out his opponent.

Remarkably Kenny Perry’s demise was virtually identical to that of Imada at last year’s tournament. Like Imada the previous year, Perry hit his tee shot into a water hazard, and was unable to recover as his opponent cautiously found par on the first hole.

Overnight leader Charles Howell III slumped to 8th place on the final day of play, while Camilo Villegas claimed 3rd place for himself after carding a round of 66. Jonathan Byrd finished the tournament in 4th place at 13 under, carding a final round of 70.

The win at the 2008 AT&T Classic is the first PGA win in Imada’s career, and will be a boost to his hopes for making the cut at the 2008 US Open.
